We are also featuring a Wilderness Medicine Specialist - David Fifer, MS, NRP, FAWM who will be talking about how to identify and manage injuries common to wilderness paddlers.

David Fifer is a Paramedic specializing in wilderness medicine, and has been responding to rescues in the Red River Gorge for nearly a decade. He is Assistant Professor of EMS & Director of the Paramedic degree program at Eastern Kentucky University, and is chair of the Kentucky Board of EMS Wilderness Paramedic Task Force, a member of the Wilderness Medical Society’s Search & Rescue committee, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Center for Wilderness Medicine. In 2018 he became a Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, and is a contributing author to the textbook “Wilderness EMS." David teaches wilderness medicine around the world to numerous local, state, and federal agencies. With Dr. Seth Hawkins he co-hosts the Remote, Austere, and Wilderness (RAW) Medical podcast.
